Flame and Glory
Congratulations to the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Bess Bower Dunn Museum.
Thee Lake county forest preserve offices have merged with the Bess Dunn Museum to create a beautiful opportunity for the public to see all the new and old items they have acquired. The new location is at 1899 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville, IL 60048.
Thanks to Katherine Hamilton-Smith, who is the director of public affairs, she reached out to local glass artist Peter Patterson to create a glass sculpture representing the different awards the forest preserve district has won over the years. The 3 glass Flames in the sculpture symbolize the Lake County Forest Preserve District as a model of fiscal responsibility, social equity and governmental transparency. The LCFPD is the largest property owner in Lake County.
This project came about when Katherine saw a post on Peter’s Facebook page regarding the recent passing of his mother. Katherine had recently lost a parent and saw the beautiful flame memorials Peter created for his family. The memorials gave her an idea to create a glass sculpture in tribute for all the awards for the forest preserve district they have won.
She wanted to use a local artist for this project.
Commissioning Peter, they came up with a unique design to commemorate the beauty of the forest preserves and nature as well as all the awards. The sculpture is located inside the museum entrance.
